Richmond Ballet: The Art of Dance

For the 2025/26 season, Richmond Ballet’s dancers were reimagined as artworks. Each ballet shaped its own visual approach: Fabergé-inspired porcelain figures for The Nutcracker, a pared-back portrait for Giselle, a Greco-Roman marble form in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts atrium, and ukiyo-e interpretations shaped by Artistic Director Ma Cong’s vision.

I collaborated with Karnes Coffey Design and Alice Blue Studios to photograph the dancers and translate their movement into sculptural and painterly forms through CGI and post-production. Each image reflects the character of its ballet while keeping the dancers’ clarity and presence at the center.

The campaign connects centuries of artistic tradition with contemporary performance.
